Cupcakes Will Not Break Us

Ana's day care allows parents to bring treats in for the kids, on the day their child's birthday. So Jen ordered 15 cupcakes at a local bakery -- she took great care to make sure they were peanut-free, rum-free, chocolate-free and not too processed (you can't imagine the incredible challenges and bureaucratic requirements necessary to feed 15 two-year-olds at a day care). Ten-minutes before we were set to visit Ana I went to the bakery to pick-up the order. They had lost the order. I almost had a moment. Had my twenty-six year-old self walked by and seen my thirty-three year-old self teetering on the edge of yelling at some poor cashier over lost cup-capkes, I would have called myself a self-righteous yuppie and moved on. Luckily I took a deep breath, realized it wasn't the end of world and ordered all the random flavors they had left. It went fine. Ana had a great time. They gave her a hat, with a big "2" on it. For all of the pains we took to pre-order the right food, the kids mostly ate the cupcake wrappers anyway. I did not buy anything with rum.
